Our Executive Principal, Genevieve Simson, has written a  pdf letter to students, parents and carers (154 KB) in our school community now that we have more clarity around Term 2 arrangements. Please refer to Compass and our website's Latest News for more updates from the GSSC Executive Team as we move closer and commence Term 2 on 15 April.

Telstra has partnered with Greater Shepparton Secondary College and RMIT University to equip 100 Year 10, 11 and 12 students with a new laptop computer to keep and free internet access for the household for up to two years.

The pilot project is aimed at low income households to track study activities, daily routines and internet use over an extended period. To take part in Telstra Connected Students Program, eligible households must have:

  • A child in Year 10, 11 or 12 enrolled at Greater Shepparton Secondary College
  • A Low Income Healthcare Card
  • An interest and ability to help university researchers understand the impact of internet access costs

Participating households will be offered a monthly broadband internet plan for the duration of their participation in the project, which may last up to two years. Years 10, 11 and 12 students in participating households will also be provided with a laptop – theirs to keep at the conclusion of the project.

Participation in the Telstra Connected Students Program involves participation in an evaluation project conducted by researchers at RMIT University. This would involve a researcher coming to the student’s home (or agreed place of choosing) and asking questions about household work and study activities, daily routines and internet use. The researcher will visit two to three times over the duration of the project to ask these questions.

Participation will also involve completing surveys on the employment, study activities and internet use of parents, carers and other members of the household. Surveys will be conducted every six months for up to two years.

If your household is interested in participating, please submit the Expression of Interest form.
