The Year 7 and Year 8 curriculum has a dedicated focus on integrating Literacy and Numeracy skills within all subject areas. Students undertake the Core subjects of English, English as an Additional Language (EAL), Mathematics, Science, Physical Education, Languages other than English (LOTE), Arts and Technology.
In Year 7 students have the choice to study the LOTE subjects of Italian, Auslan and Japanese. Students continue to study their chosen language in Year 8 to ensure continuity. For Arts and Technology subjects the students in Year 7 and Year 8 undertake a 2 Year rotation where they undertake all of the following subjects:
- Media Arts
- Visual Arts
- Performing Arts
- Digital Technology
- Design Technology – Foods
- Design Technology – Textiles
- Design Technology – Wood, Metal and Plastics
As part of the Learning Mentor program, students are taught social and emotional skills, having opportunities to learn and practice social skills such as cooperation, managing conflict, making friends and recognising and managing their own feelings. Students in Year 7 and Year 8 are also introduced to AVID (Advancement via Individual Program). This program supports students to take ownership of their learning, which results in academic and social growth.
The Year 7 and Year 8 students at Greater Shepparton Secondary College will undertake their 2021 studies at the McGuire Campus prior to transitioning to our new school in 2022.
