Golden Square High School was established in 1960 in temporary accommodation located at Camp Hill Primary School. The school moved to its present site in 1962, catering for years 7 to 12, and became a Year 7 to 10 school in 1978. It was one of the three original feeder schools to Bendigo Senior High School. In 1990, it took on its current name, Golden Square Secondary College. A Hearing Impaired Unit was established at the college in 1986.
The College has developed, and and continues to review, a comprehensive curriculum based on the Curriculum Standards Framework which endeavors to meet the varying needs of students who come from approximately thirty rural and urban Primary Schools.
